The White Bridge, all covered up for safe asbestos removal and refurbishment, that crosses the Rideau River at Carleton University, seen from the River Building.
Lots of work taking place around and on the O-Train alignment. In several pictures, you can observe the guideway is covered with crushed rock, creating ramps for easier access to the work sites.
Mystery solved! The White Bridge of the Trillium Line has been covered in a white tent for environmental safe removal of decades of lead paints, at the Rideau River.
The new northend Carleton Station underpass of the enhanced Trillium Line Stage 2. Note steel beams supporting comms conduits either side. Eventual building over the tracks.
The "White" bridge over the RIdeau River is even more white now! (Sandblasting?) The new MUP bridge will cross upstream and land at the right fenced-off area. Much safer than walking the Trillium Line bridge illegally.
Work continues at Carleton. In the first picture, you can see the Carleton University tunnel segment that is being built underneath the tracks simultaneously during Stage 2 work and Line 2 shutdown. This will eventually become part of a future expansion of the University tunnel system.
Tenting over the "White" Bridge over the Rideau River near Carleton University in prep for pier rehabilitation. New MUP bridge will be just to the right/upstream.
Excavation for Trillium Line underpass at South end of Carleton Station. There will be a similar underpass at the North end of the Station and the University has the option of building over top of the station in future, integrating the underpasses.
This historic underpass South of Carleton Station has been extended to allow for double tracking above. It originally was built for a field railway about a century ago to move fill from here to Brewer Park/Ottawa South development lands. Note limestone blocks preserved.
Massive round excavation just South of Carleton Station. Note temporary supports for all the FOC conduits.
North of Carleton Station there is also a massive excavation with de-watering, for another possible underpass? Note again comms conduits.
Lengthened South side pedestrian underpass of Trillium Line Stage 2 with Rideau River Bridge. The passing siding / double track will end near this point.
Carleton Station and the nearby pedestrian underpass which is being lengthened for double track siding from here to the Rideau River bridge. Note the folded up platform extenders so you don't need to Mind the Gap.
Platrfom length doubling at Carleton Station to accommodate double Coradia LINT and the longer Stadler FLIRT trains in 2 years.
Was going to check out the southern extension of the Trillium line today but because of the rain, I didn't want to park on the muddy side of the road so I went to Carleton instead. Great view from the top of the parking garage. In the first picture, those appear to be rail ties taken out, probably out of the Dows lake tunnel since they are stacked near the portal next to parking garage P18 over the tracks.
This old Carleton University stone bridge was built early last century for a small railway to quarry soil from here, under Trillium Line to fill in Brewer Park area marshland. Being widened for Stage 2 double track here.
As part of Stage 2 contract, a new bike/pedestrian bridge over the Rideau River will be built to the right of Ghandi, parallel to the single track Trillium Line.
Dragged away almost new switches and signal components etc. for temporary storage and re-use at Carleton Station.
Carleton Station platforms will be extended to accommodate trains double the length, and the passing siding here greatly lengthened. However frequency will be unchanged and travel times increased due to new Gladstone and Walkley Station stops.
Underpass work at Carleton University to allow for longer passing sidings in Trillium Line Stage 2 two years from now.
